In 2010, the 11th edition of the manual “Intellectual Disability: Definition, Classification and Levels of Support” was published by AAIDD (American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities), which maintained the 2002 definition, but incorporated the change in the term “ mental retardation/disability” for intellectual disability with the following wording: Intellectual disability is a disability characterized by significant limitations in intellectual functioning (reasoning, learning and problem solving) and in adaptive behavior that covers a range of social and practical skills of everyday life. day.
